The Custom Surface Area feature uses point snapping and allows you to take accurate measurements of any custom polygonal area in your 3D model. All the measurements you take are recorded in your Measurements Card tool.
We'll cover the following:
Create custom surface area measurements
Click on the Measurements icon (Measurements Card will appear)
Click on the Custom Polygonal Area icon to activate (orange) the feature
โClick on it again to deactivate it (grey)
Click on the model geometry to start locating points in the model.
After each click:
- a point appears in the model
- a measurement banner displays the incremental area calculation as you add more pointsThe measurement point is:
- Red when you hover in space
- Grey when you hover on model geometry
- Green when you snap onto a surface edgeYou can spin around the model whilst measuring or selecting your next point
To finish your Custom Polygonal Area measurement double click on your final point selection
Every Custom Surface Area measurement appears in the Measurements card with the relevant area displayed in the model or federation units. The selected total instantly updates based on the added or removed area
Change the custom surface name
In the Measurements card, hover over the custom area name
and click on the pen iconRename the custom area in the text editor and click on the Save icon
Click on the X button if you wish to cancel the renaming operation
Change custom surface colour
By default, all Custom Surface Area measurements have a pink colour
Click on the paint drop-down next to the custom area you wish to recolour
Choose a colour from the palette or enter a HEX colour code
Click on the green Save button
โA new colour will apply to the area measurement in the model
Remove custom surfaces
Click on the X icon next to each Custom Surface Area measurement to individually delete it from the Measurements card
Or click on small X in the measurements banner to delete the custom area directly in the model
Expand/Collapse custom surfaces list
Click on the arrow icon button to expand and collapse the list of Custom Surface Area measurement created. This option is particularly useful when dealing with a large list of measurements.
