The Surface Area feature uses object face snapping and allows you to take accurate measurements of any object's surface area in your 3D model. All the measurements you take are recorded in your Measurements Card tool. We'll cover the following:

Create surface area measurements

  • Click on the Measurements icon (Measurements Card will appear)

  • Click on the Surface Area icon to activate (orange) the feature
Click on it again to deactivate it (grey)

  • Click on any object face you wish to initiate the surface area calculation
You must select model Faces (clicking in space won't work)

  • If needed, use the Dismiss button (double click) to stop the area calculation

  • The measurement point is grey and doesn't change colour on hover

  • The measurement line is fixed with a measurement banner after calculation

  • Every Surface Area measurement appears in the Measurements card with the relevant area displayed in the model or federation units. The selected total instantly updates based on the added or removed area

Change surface name

  • In the Measurements card, hover over the area name and click on the pen icon

  • Rename the area in the text editor and click on the Save icon

  • Click on the X button if you wish to cancel the renaming operation

Change surface colour

  • By default, all Surface Area measurements have a pink colour

  • Click on the paint drop-down next to the area you wish to recolour

  • Choose a colour from the palette or enter a HEX colour code

  • Click on the green Save button
A new colour will apply to the area measurement in the model

Remove surfaces

  • Click on the X icon next to each Surface Area measurement to individually delete it from the Measurements card

  • Or click on small X in the measurements banner to delete the area directly in the model

Expand/Collapse surfaces list

  • Click on the arrow icon button to expand and collapse the list of Surface Area measurement created. This option is particularly useful when dealing with a large list of measurements.
