Clash Detection via 3D Repo Navisworks Plugin

This article will explain how to synchronise clashes from Navisworks Manage with 3D Repo.

TIP: To use this feature, install the latest Navisworks plugin from the 3D Repo download page.

Overview

  • Once synchronised, clashes in 3D Repo can be assigned and managed to support coordination and resolution.

Workflow Overview

  • Clashes are synchronised between Navisworks and 3D Repo using a master NWF model.

  • The NWF file maintains links to underlying authoring files and can be updated with new revisions either locally or through file synchronisation services such as aDrive.

  • Authoring files can also be uploaded directly or pushed automatically through integrations with a Common Data Environment (CDE), such as Asite.

  • To ensure successful synchronisation, the files referenced in the NWF must match those stored in 3D Repo. The plugin performs checksum validation to verify consistency and detect discrepancies.

3D Repo Clash Detection Template

  • Clash detection ticket templates are included by default within all models.

  • During synchronisation, ticket instances are created or updated automatically.

  • After synchronisation, clashes can be grouped and filtered to support structured review.

Synched Clash Properties

The following properties are synchronised from Navisworks to 3D Repo via the plugin:

Synchronise Clashes from Navisworks

Create New Clashes

  1. Open the master NWF file in Navisworks.

  2. Navigate to the 3D Repo tab and click Tickets.

  3. In the ticket viewer, click Clash Detective.

  4. Select the clash test.

  5. Click Sync to 3D Repo.

  6. New clashes will be displayed.

    • Clashes can be filtered by:

      • Clash Report

      • Group

      • Status

      • Assigned To

      • Approved By

    TIP: Disable screenshots during synchronisation to improve performance in low-bandwidth environments.

  7. Click Refresh to compare Navisworks and 3D Repo data.

  8. Select the required clashes.

  9. Click Start Sync.

  10. Click OK to complete the process.

Update Existing Clashes

  1. Update the master NWF file with the latest model revision.

  2. Click Update All or Re-run for the clash test.

    NOTE: Do not reset the clash test. Resetting creates new clash IDs and breaks continuity.

  3. Open the 3D Repo Clash Detective.

  4. Click Sync to 3D Repo.

  5. Click Refresh.

    • Changes will appear in the Updates tab.

      • New values appear in green.

      • Previous values appear in red.

  6. Review the changes and click Start Sync.

  7. Click OK to complete the process.

Synchronise Changes from 3D Repo to Navisworks

  1. Open the 3D Repo Clash Detective tool.

  2. Select the required clash report.

  3. Click Sync to Navisworks.

  4. Click Refresh.

    • Updates will appear in the Updates tab:

      • New values appear in green.

      • Removed values appear in red.

  5. Review the changes and click Start Sync.

  6. Click OK to finalise.

Clashes will now be updated in Navisworks.

NOTE: Geometric properties such as clash points and distances are controlled by Navisworks and are not modified by 3D Repo.
